The International SeaKeepers Society

The International SeaKeepers Society promotes oceanographic research, conservation, and education through direct involvement with the yachting community. Providing educational resources and hands-on marine science experiences to students is the primary focus for ensuring the future wellbeing of our planet. SeaKeepers enables the yachting community to take full advantage of their unique potential to advance marine sciences and raise awareness about global ocean issues.

Members of SeaKeepers include influential opinion leaders who believe that the best way to protect the environment is to protect the world’s oceans. Our members recognize the oceans’ critical importance to the life of our planet. SeaKeepers is thus deeply committed to finding real-world solutions to the problems now plaguing our seas.

Our small but distinguished membership includes entrepreneurs, yachtsmen, corporations, divers, scientists, and concerned citizens building a global movement to help restore and protect the world’s oceans. As a private/public collaborative effort, SeaKeepers focuses on critical ocean issues in cooperation with government agencies, other like-minded organizations, the academic community, and the public. Our motto is, “Research. Educate. Protect and Restore.”

Island Cruising NZ

Island Cruising NZ provide yacht cruising rallies around New Zealand and the islands of the South Pacific. These rallies are designed to allow sailors to cruise the islands aboard their own boats, or assist as crew on someone else’s boat.

We provide assistance with customs, immigration and biosecurity in and out of each country, arrange social events at various points along the way and arrange clearances into places such the Lau group of Fiji and the Loyalty Islands of New Caledonia.

We also hold educational seminars to help sailors understand how to prepare their vessels for sailing offshore and get the most out of cruising in the Islands.

The Marine & Specialised Technologies Academy of New Zealand proudly develops people who build and deliver world-class boats, products and services.

We carry out the following statutory functions:

  • Set national skill standards for the marine and composites industries.
  • Arrange for off and on job delivery.
  • Arrange for the assessment of apprentices.
  • Provide information and advice to apprentices and their employers.
  • Provide leadership within the industry on matters relating to skill and training needs

Skipper Training NZ Ltd

Through years of teaching for different maritime training providers, we identified a need for practical, hands-on training options.

In our experience, most other skipper training courses put needless pressure on students, and over-complicate what – we thought – could be so simple.

That’s why we put our heads together and developed a completely new SRL course with a focus on efficiency and practicality.

In a nutshell, our SRL course is unique in that…

  • It doesn’t require months of self-directed online learning
  • Your tutor will sign off your Training Record Book in class
  • It includes practical sessions on the water
  • You can complete your Training and Record book on our block course in 4 – 5 weeks

That way, you can gain your skipper qualification much faster and with more support than in other SRL courses.

Skipper Training NZ (Ministry of Education number 6035) is a private training establishment that has been granted registration by the New Zealand Qualifications Authority under Part 4, subpart 5 of the Education and Training Act 2020.

LegaSea

LegaSea is a group of committed Kiwis working together to restore our inshore fisheries. Our team is a mix of professionals and volunteers. 

 

We are committed to; elevating awareness of the issues facing our inshore fisheries and marine environment, promoting environmentally friendly ways to fish so we can restore New Zealand’s fisheries to healthy levels and deriving more value from the fish we do harvest. 

 

LegaSea is a subsidiary of, and governed by, the New Zealand Sport Fishing Council. 

HMNZS Hawea

HMNZS HAWEA is one of the Navy’s four Inshore Patrol Vessels (IPVs).  The ships are designed for maritime surveillance and patrol missions around New Zealand’s 15,000 kilometer coast and out to the 200 nautical mile limit of our Exclusive Economic Zone.  The IPV’s primary mission is to protect the security and prosperity of New Zealanders by undertaking maritime security patrols, surveillance, boarding operations and response to search and rescue call outs.   The IPVs regularly work with government agencies such as Ministry of Primary Industries, Customs, Police and Department of Conservation. HAWEA was delivered to the Ministry of Defence and commissioned into the Royal New Zealand Navy on 1 May 2009. HAWEA is the third ship of this name to serve in the Royal New Zealand Navy and is named after Lake Hawea.
