Helping More Women Get Confident on the Water
As an industry, we spend a lot of time talking about boats, engines, electronics and safety equipment. But one of the biggest opportunities to improve boating safety starts with something much simpler—confidence.
That’s where Wild Chix is making a real difference.
Founded by Isabell, Wild Chix is a New Zealand organisation dedicated to empowering women in the outdoors through practical, hands-on education. Their boating programmes are designed to help women gain the knowledge, skills and confidence to become active, capable crew members and confident skippers.
Many women spend years on boats but have never had the opportunity to learn the fundamentals in an environment where they feel comfortable asking questions. Wild Chix provides that space. Their female-only courses are supportive, practical and judgement-free, allowing participants to build confidence at their own pace.
The benefits extend well beyond the individual. More confident women create more capable crews, safer boating partnerships, stronger family adventures and positive role models for the next generation. When more people on board understand trip planning, weather, navigation, launching, docking and safety procedures, everyone benefits.
As we approach another busy summer boating season, Wild Chix is encouraging marine businesses to help get more women involved before they hit the water.
In addition to their practical on-water programmes, Wild Chix offers engaging 2-hour indoor seminars that provide an ideal introduction to boating. These sessions cover the fundamentals in a fun and approachable way, making them perfect for customers who are new to boating or looking to build confidence before taking the next step.
